AGAINST THE PARTS OF ME THAT THINK THEY KNOW ANYTHING
Exhibition text:
James Caswell is an emerging Brisbane/Meanjin based artist. His latest body of work Against The Parts Of Me That Think They Know Anything is a continuation of research and investigation into the material properties of photography. With a practice deeply rooted in the act of making, Caswell focuses on 3 distinct modes of collage: weaving, cyanotype photo-transfer, and composite imagery. Created during a month-long intensive residency at Merivale Studios, Caswell’s resulting work is heavily process-driven in order to create new and playful additions to photography’s contemporary visual culture.
